The Jazz Sanctuary Begins Its 15th Year of Free Live Jazz, Setting Sights on 1,000 Concerts

The Greater Philadelphia Nonprofit Launches 2026 with a Matching Fundraising Campaign to Help Reach its 1,000th Event

As we enter our 15th year, our sights are set on a major milestone, reaching our 1,000th event in 2026.”

— Alan Segal, Founder & Executive Director of The Jazz Sanctuary

PHILADELPHIA, PA, UNITED STATES, January 7, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Philadelphia’s most distinctive performing arts nonprofit, The Jazz Sanctuary, opens its 15th year of bringing free jazz to communities across the Greater Philadelphia region this month with concerts in Buckingham, Devon and Philadelphia.

The first month of the New Year also brings the second full month of The Jazz Sanctuary’s annual Matching Fundraising Campaign, which ends on Saturday, Jan. 31st. The annual two-month campaign provides a meaningful moment for supporters to help sustain and expand the nonprofit’s mission.

“I may be starting the new year doing physical therapy instead of carrying my bass, but my commitment to The Jazz Sanctuary hasn’t changed one bit,” said Alan Segal, Founder and Executive Director of The Jazz Sanctuary. “This organization has always been about persistence, heart, and showing up for the community, and that spirit carries us forward, even when life throws a curveball.”

Segal suffered a broken hip in a fall in late November, but he is well on the road to a full recovery but will be sidelined from performing with his friends in The Jazz Sanctuary for a bit.

“I’m deeply grateful for the patience and support of our audiences, hosts, and donors as I focus on healing,” Segal added. “Thanks to friends like Bruce Kaminsky stepping in, the music continues — and that continuity means everything to me.”

Among the concerts on The Jazz Sanctuary’s January 2026 schedule are an evening of the always-popular “Jazz & Joe” — featuring live music, coffee, soft drinks, and dessert treats – to Trinity Episcopal Church (Routes 202 & 413, Buckingham, PA 18912) on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Slated to perform are The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet – James Dell’Orefice (piano), Eddie Etkins (saxophone), Leon Jordan Sr. (drums), and Randy Sutin (vibes/percussion), with Bruce Kaminsky filling in on bass for the recovering Alan Segal.

On Thursday, Jan. 22nd, that same quintet will bring “Jazz & Joe” back to Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Episcopal Church (8 Christian St., Philadelphia, PA 19147) for a 7:30 p.m. performance.

The Jazz Sanctuary Quintet returns to Main Line Unitarian Church (816 S. Valley Forge Rd., Devon, PA 19333) on Wednesday, Jan. 28th for a 7:30 p.m. concert performance.

Community groups, houses of worship, and organizations interested in hosting a performance with The Jazz Sanctuary are encouraged to reach out to Segal via email at alan@alansegal.net.

Recent hosts and community partners have praised The Jazz Sanctuary for enriching local gatherings and special events through their performances. Whether in historic churches or neighborhood centers, the ensemble’s presence brings warmth, professionalism, and an unmistakable love of the craft.

“As we enter our 15th year, our sights are set on a major milestone, reaching our 1,000th event in 2026,” Segal noted. “It’s an ambitious goal, but I know it’s achievable with a little elbow grease, a lot of heart, and continued support from the people who believe in what we do.

“Keeping jazz free and accessible takes more than music, it takes community,” said Segal. “Our matching campaign in December and January gives supporters a powerful way to help us build toward the future. Every contribution brings us one step closer to that 1,000th concert.”

The Jazz Sanctuary is supported by more than 100 individual donors and sponsors, including Compass Ion Advisors, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, Quantum Think, Alan J. Segal LLC, and DMG Global.

“Jazz only lives when it’s shared,” Segal added. “When people show up, listen, and support the work, they keep this music alive. Their participation isn’t just appreciated, it’s essential.”
